The green leafhopper (Empoasca viridula) is a significant pest species classified within the order Hemiptera and the family Cicadellidae. These insects are small, wedge-shaped, and possess a bright green color, which provides effective camouflage among the foliage of their host plants.

This pest has a broad host range, causing substantial damage to various agricultural and horticultural crops. Major targets include potatoes, tomatoes, beans, grapes, and various leafy vegetables. Both nymphs and adults feed by extracting plant sap, which weakens the plant and stunts overall development.
