Description
Encarsia protransvena is a parasitic wasp belonging to the order Hymenoptera and the family Aphelinidae. In agricultural science, it is recognized for its complex role in regulating the populations of various whitefly species, which are known pests in both professional greenhouses and open fields.
The primary hosts for this parasite include the greenhouse whitefly (Trialeurodes vaporariorum) and the tobacco whitefly (Bemisia tabaci). Consequently, the crops most at risk are vegetable staples such as tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, as well as various ornamental floriculture crops grown under protected conditions.
The biological cycle of this insect involves endoparasitism. The female wasp deposits her eggs inside the host larvae.
