Epidamaeus ibericus belongs to the order Sarcoptiformes and the family Damaeidae. These microscopic arthropods, commonly known as oribatid or armored mites, are primarily found in soil and leaf litter. While many oribatid species are considered beneficial soil dwellers, certain species can cause economic damage to seedlings and nursery crops under favorable environmental conditions.
This species prefers moist habitats rich in organic debris. The life cycle consists of the egg, larva, three nymphal stages (protonymph, deutonymph, tritonymph), and adult. The developmental process is relatively slow and highly dependent on soil temperature and humidity, which allows the species to persist in the soil profile over extended periods of time.
