The Canadian gooseberry fruit fly (Euphranta canadensis) is a member of the Tephritidae family within the order Diptera. This pest is a significant concern for small fruit growers, particularly affecting crops that are native to or introduced in its geographic range, primarily in North America.

The primary hosts for this fly include gooseberries, red currants, and white currants. By targeting the developing fruit, the insect impacts both the quality and quantity of the harvest, causing significant economic losses for commercial growers and home gardeners alike.

The biology of Euphranta canadensis involves a single generation per year. Adult flies emerge in the spring, coinciding with the development of the fruit.
