The primary host plant is the cocoa tree (Theobroma cacao). Both nymphs and adults feed on the plant tissues, focusing their activity on young shoots, floral parts, and developing pods. Their piercing-sucking mouthparts allow them to extract fluids directly from the plant's vascular system.

The life cycle involves egg-laying within the soft tissue of the cocoa pods or stems. The development from egg to adult is temperature-dependent and relatively rapid in tropical climates. Nymphs often cluster on young pods, leading to localized feeding damage that affects the growth and development of the fruit.

Damage is characterized by lesions on the surface of the pods, which often result in tissue necrosis and malformation. Furthermore, these feeding punctures serve as entry points for secondary fungal infections, such as Phytophthora species, which lead to pod rot and total loss of the harvest in severely infested trees.
