Description
The two-lobed leafhopper (Euscelis bilobatus) belongs to the order Hemiptera and the family Cicadellidae. It is a specialized sap-sucking pest that inhabits grasslands and agricultural fields, often remaining unnoticed due to its small size and effective camouflage within the foliage.
This pest primarily infests cereal crops, including wheat, barley, and oats. It also thrives on various wild grasses found in field margins and meadows, which serve as essential breeding grounds and alternative food sources for the leafhopper populations throughout the growing season.
The life cycle of Euscelis bilobatus typically consists of egg, nymph, and adult stages. Overwintering occurs primarily in the egg stage, deposited within the plant tissue. Following the spring hatch, nymphs undergo five instars, feeding voraciously on plant sap before reaching the adult stage, at which point they become capable of long-distance dispersal.
