Commonly known as a type of mealybug, this insect represents a persistent challenge for plant health, particularly in tropical regions and controlled environments like greenhouses where it can thrive without the pressure of natural predators.
The host range of this pest is diverse, affecting various agricultural and ornamental crops. It is notably known to infest coffee plants and other perennial woody shrubs. Due to its cryptic behavior, the insect frequently hides in tight crevices, leaf axils, and under bark, which allows it to establish large colonies before being detected by farmers or gardeners.
