Description
The genus Exorista belongs to the family Tachinidae within the order Diptera. Contrary to being a plant pest, Exorista species are highly effective parasitoids that play a crucial role in natural pest control systems in various agricultural and forest ecosystems.
Taxonomically, they are members of the Diptera order. Their life history is specifically adapted to target larvae of Lepidoptera, which are among the most destructive pests of vegetable crops, fruit trees, and field crops. They serve as a key component of natural population regulation.
