Biology and life cycle: The lifecycle of Exorista larvarum begins when an adult female deposits eggs directly onto the skin of a host caterpillar. Once the egg hatches, the maggot bores into the host's body and feeds on internal tissues. After the host dies, the larva emerges to pupate in the soil or leaf litter, completing its transition to an adult fly.
