Systematically, this insect is distinct because its larvae do not cause plant damage. Instead, they act as specialized predators. The adult is a small, delicate fly that actively searches for spider mite colonies, triggered by chemicals released by the infested plants. Once the eggs hatch, the larvae move across the leaf surface to hunt and consume the mites.

The life cycle of Feltiella is closely synchronized with its prey. Development from egg to adult takes approximately two to three weeks depending on temperature. The larvae are voracious feeders; a single larva can consume dozens of mites and their eggs daily, making them an extremely powerful tool for suppressing rapid pest population outbreaks.

Its use significantly reduces the need for acaricides, helping to produce residues-free crops and preventing the development of pesticide resistance in spider mite populations.
