Unlike many other aquatic bugs, this species primarily inhabits moist terrestrial environments, such as sandy banks and muddy borders near agricultural fields or water bodies.

While Gelastocoris oculatus is primarily known as a predatory insect that feeds on smaller invertebrates, it can occasionally impact agricultural landscapes. In fields situated near wetlands or irrigation canals, their population may thrive in the moist soil conditions.
