Greenidea is a genus of aphids belonging to the family Aphididae, specifically within the subfamily Greenideinae. These insects are distinguished by their unique morphological features, including elongated siphunculi and distinct body setae. They are primarily known as specialized sap-suckers that target various woody plants in both temperate and tropical climates.

The host range of Greenidea typically includes trees and shrubs from families such as Fagaceae (oaks) and Myrtaceae. They often establish large colonies on the undersides of leaves, young stems, and petioles. Because they are phloem-feeders, they extract essential nutrients, which can lead to significant physiological stress for the infested host plant.

The biology of these aphids involves a cycle that is closely synchronized with the growth of their host plants. In many cases, the nymphs and adults are found in dense clusters, protecting themselves while feeding. Like other aphid species, Greenidea secretes honeydew, which attracts ants and fosters the growth of sooty mold, further damaging the foliage by blocking sunlight.

Damage caused by Greenidea manifests as curled, yellowed, or deformed leaves and stunted shoot growth. Heavy infestations can lead to premature leaf drop and overall vigor decline in nursery stock or landscape trees. By weakening the plant's structural integrity, these aphids also make the hosts more susceptible to fungal pathogens and environmental stressors.

Management of Greenidea requires an integrated approach to ensure long-term plant health. Effective control strategies should prioritize both chemical and biological methods to reduce pest populations before they cause irreparable damage:
