Description
Gymnosoma fuliginosum is a species of tachinid fly (family Tachinidae) known for its role as a specialized parasitoid. Belonging to the order Diptera, these flies are easily recognized by their distinct morphology and behavior. They are widespread in various agricultural landscapes, acting as natural enemies to several species of shield bugs (Pentatomidae).
The biological cycle of this fly involves the female depositing eggs on the cuticle of the host bug. Upon hatching, the larva bores into the host's body to feed on its internal organs.
