Halticoptera circulus

Halticoptera circulus is a species of hymenopteran insect belonging to the family Pteromalidae. While often recognized in entomological studies as a parasitoid of various leaf-mining flies, its presence in agricultural settings requires careful monitoring, as the interaction between the pest, the host insect, and the host plant can influence overall crop health and yield stability.

This insect primarily impacts various vegetable crops, including members of the Solanaceae and Cucurbitaceae families. Crops such as tomatoes, cucumbers, and peppers are particularly susceptible to damage when population levels of host insects are high, leading to increased activity of Halticoptera circulus within the leaf tissues of these plants.

The life cycle involves four stages: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. The insect typically undergoes several generations throughout the growing season. The development is highly dependent on ambient temperature, with warmer conditions significantly shortening the generation time, which can lead to rapid population build-ups in commercial greenhouses or field conditions.
