The flax bollworm (Heliothis ononis) is a destructive insect pest belonging to the order Lepidoptera and the family Noctuidae. It is recognized as a significant threat to flax production, particularly in regions where environmental conditions favor the rapid proliferation of this species.
The primary host plant for this pest is cultivated flax (Linum usitatissimum). The larvae feed specifically on the reproductive parts of the plant, which makes this insect highly problematic for both fiber and oilseed flax production systems across major agricultural regions.
The life cycle consists of four distinct stages: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. The pest overwinters as a pupa within the soil profile.
