Helopeltis bakeri is a destructive insect species belonging to the family Miridae (order Hemiptera). Commonly known as a type of mirid bug, this pest is a notorious threat to various high-value plantation crops, particularly across Southeast Asian agricultural ecosystems.
The host range of Helopeltis bakeri includes essential economic crops such as cocoa, cashew, tea, and coffee, alongside several fruit trees. Its preference for young, succulent tissues makes nurseries and young orchards particularly susceptible to heavy infestations during the wet season.
The life cycle of the pest consists of egg, five nymphal instars, and the adult stage. The female adult uses its sharp ovipositor to insert eggs into the soft tissues of shoots or developing fruits.
