The pest typically targets a variety of tropical and subtropical plants. It is particularly damaging to cacao trees, where it feeds on tender shoots, leaves, and developing pods. By extracting sap from these vital plant parts, the insect weakens the host plant, often leading to stunted growth, dieback, and in severe cases, the death of the tree.

The life cycle of this species comprises three distinct stages: egg, nymph, and adult. Females deposit their eggs into the succulent plant tissues, such as petioles or young stems. Once hatched, the nymphs begin feeding immediately, undergoing several instars before maturing. High humidity and consistent tropical temperatures create ideal conditions for rapid population growth and continuous breeding cycles throughout the year.
