Description
Systematic classification. The birch leaf miner (Heringocrania unimaculella) belongs to the order Lepidoptera, family Eriocraniidae. These are small moths characterized by their specialized larval stage, which feeds exclusively within the leaf tissues of host plants, creating distinct patterns known as mines.
Host plants. This species is an oligophage, specifically targeting various species of birch (Betula). It is commonly found in temperate forests and ornamental landscapes where birches are present, occasionally reaching population levels that require active management in nurseries or high-value plantings.
