Systematic position: Heterococcus (lat. Heterococcus) is a genus of insects belonging to the family Pseudococcidae, commonly known as mealybugs, within the order Hemiptera. These insects are significant agricultural pests known for their ability to thrive in greenhouse environments and ornamental plant collections.

Affected crops and damage patterns: The pest primarily targets ornamental, floral, and certain vegetable crops. Damage is caused by the insects piercing plant tissues and extracting sap, which leads to stunted growth, leaf chlorosis, deformation of shoots, and in severe cases, the death of the host plant.
