Description

Systematic position. The genus Hyalopteroides belongs to the order Hemiptera and the family Aphididae. These insects are highly specialized sap-sucking pests that primarily target monocotyledonous plants, showing a strong preference for orchid species in various cultivation environments.

Host plants. The primary hosts for Hyalopteroides are orchids (Orchidaceae family). They colonize new growth, including tender leaves, young pseudobulbs, and developing floral spikes, effectively draining the energy reserves required for plant maturation and blooming.

Biology and life cycle. Like many aphid species, Hyalopteroides exhibit a high reproductive rate, often via parthenogenesis.
