Silver carp (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix) belongs to the order Cypriniformes and the family Cyprinidae. While primarily known for its role in commercial aquaculture, it can act as a nuisance in agricultural water management systems where its presence, if not properly regulated, leads to structural damage to irrigation infrastructure and disruption of water quality standards.
The fish primarily affects irrigation canals, water cooling ponds, and drainage infrastructure. By engaging in constant high-volume water filtration, the silver carp alters the biological balance of the pond, which can cause excessive siltation, clogging of intake pumps, and the degradation of aquatic environments necessary for consistent farm irrigation practices.
