Kolla

Kolla is a genus of insects belonging to the order Hemiptera and the family Cicadellidae (leafhoppers). These insects are found in various geographical regions where they feed on the sap of numerous plants. Within agricultural landscapes, they are recognized as significant pests due to their feeding habits and potential to impact the health and vigor of various cultivated crops.

The host range for Kolla species is quite diverse. They frequently infest cereal crops, rice, corn, and various vegetables, as well as many perennial grasses. Their broad host range allows these insects to thrive in dynamic agricultural environments, easily moving between wild host plants and cultivated areas throughout the growing season.

Damage caused by Kolla is primarily due to sap extraction, which leads to leaf stunting, yellowing, and overall physiological stress in the plant. Furthermore, as phloem-feeding insects, they act as potential vectors for various plant pathogens, including viruses and phytoplasmas, which can cause severe systemic diseases and significant economic losses in agricultural yields.
