Lariophagus distinguendus is a species of parasitic wasp belonging to the family Pteromalidae within the order Hymenoptera. This species is primarily recognized in agronomy as a specialized parasitoid of various beetles that infest stored grain products. Unlike direct agricultural pests that feed on crops in the field, this wasp focuses on larvae hiding inside grain kernels.

The biological cycle of this insect is fascinating and highly specialized. The female uses her ovipositor to detect and reach larvae of pests such as the grain weevil or the cigarette beetle living deep inside the grain. By paralyzing the host and laying eggs on them, the Lariophagus larva consumes the host, effectively acting as a natural regulator of pest populations within grain bins.
