The genus Larus belongs to the order Charadriiformes and the family Laridae. While primarily aquatic birds, several species within this genus have successfully adapted to terrestrial agricultural environments, where they pose a significant challenge to farmers by exploiting sown fields as feeding grounds.
Gulls primarily damage newly sown crops and early sprouts. Their foraging behavior includes digging up seeds of corn, sunflower, and various cereals shortly after planting.
