Biology and life cycle: The insect undergoes a complete metamorphosis. Adults are minute, delicate flies. Females oviposit in the sunflower heads, typically exploiting punctures or wounds previously made by other primary pests like the sunflower moth or other snout beetles. The larvae develop inside the sunflower head, feeding on internal tissues.
