This pest primarily attacks plants belonging to the Asteraceae family. It is most commonly associated with various species of Artemisia (wormwood). While it primarily impacts wild or medicinal flora, it can occasionally affect ornamental plants, causing structural changes that reduce the plant's aesthetic and physiological value.

Biology and life cycle
The life cycle of Lasioptera falcata is strictly synchronized with the host plant's growth stage. Adult females oviposit into the stem tissues. Upon hatching, larvae secrete substances that induce the plant to form a gall around them. The larvae develop within these galls, feeding on the nutrient-rich tissue provided by the host plant's physiological response to the infestation.
