Crops affected. While primarily found in leaf litter and decaying matter, this snail species can become a pest in ornamental gardens, nurseries, and greenhouses. It frequently damages delicate seedlings, young vegetable shoots, and berry plants when its natural habitat is disturbed or when moisture levels in crop areas are excessively high.

Biology and life cycle. Lauria cylindracea is a hermaphroditic organism that relies on moisture to survive and reproduce. Eggs are typically deposited in damp soil or beneath organic mulch. The species is largely nocturnal, emerging under cover of darkness or high humidity to graze on vegetation, which makes detection difficult until significant damage occurs.

Character of damage and economic importance. This pest feeds by scraping plant tissues, creating ragged holes in leaves, stems, and fruits. In severe infestations, the snail can defoliate entire seedling trays. Beyond direct mechanical damage, these snails act as vectors for various plant diseases and pathogens that thrive in the slime trails left by the snails on the foliage.

Control measures. Effective management of this pest requires an integrated approach to maintain plant health and suppress snail populations:
