Crucial agronomic note: Lepadogaster (the clingfish) is not a pest of agricultural plants or horticultural crops. This genus belongs to the order Gobiiformes and the family Gobiesocidae. These are strictly marine benthic organisms whose lifecycle and habitat completely preclude any interaction with terrestrial or hydroponic agro-crops.

Systematically, members of the genus Lepadogaster are characterized by the presence of a unique suction disk located on the ventral side of the body. This organ is formed by modified pectoral and pelvic fins, allowing the fish to firmly attach to rocks and stones in the surf zone, where water currents would be too strong for many other aquatic organisms.

The biology and developmental cycle of these fish are closely linked to the coastal zone of the World Ocean, particularly the Mediterranean and Black Sea basins. They lead a secretive lifestyle, hiding under rocks or in empty mollusk shells. During the breeding season, the female lays eggs on a hard substrate, which the male then actively guards until the larvae hatch.

The type of damage sometimes incorrectly attributed to this object in an agronomic context is a biological misconception. Lepadogaster feeds on small invertebrates, including crustaceans, worms, and mollusks. This species is physically incapable of damaging crops, greenhouse plants, or orchards, as it lacks the mouth anatomy required to consume plant matter.

Protection measures against Lepadogaster in the agricultural sector are unnecessary as the object is not a pathogen or a pest. Growers should focus on combating real agricultural pests, whose names may be confused or misidentified in general-interest literature. Preserving the biodiversity of coastal areas remains an important ecological priority.
