Description

Lespesia is a genus of parasitic flies belonging to the family Tachinidae within the order Diptera. These insects are well-known in entomology for their role as parasitoids, predominantly targeting Lepidopteran larvae. In agricultural settings, they are often observed in fields containing a high density of caterpillars, acting as significant regulators of insect pest populations.

These parasitoids target a variety of crops, including corn, soybeans, cotton, and various leafy vegetables. They primarily affect lepidopteran species such as armyworms and cutworms, which are known for causing extensive damage to plant foliage. By parasitizing these pests, Lespesia plays a crucial role in suppressing population explosions in commercial fields.
