Taxonomically, Loxoconcha belongs to the order Podocopida within the family Loxoconchidae. They are characterized by a distinct calcified bivalve shell that protects their soft body. Their ecological niche is primarily benthic, but they frequently attach to the surfaces of submerged plants, where their feeding activities can cause significant physiological stress to the host.
