Taxonomic position: The potato aphid (Macrosiphum euphorbiae) is a member of the order Hemiptera and the family Aphididae. Despite its common name, it has an extremely wide host range and is recognized as a significant agricultural pest worldwide.

It is particularly damaging to Solanaceous crops, including potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, and eggplants, as well as various ornamental plants like roses, tulips, and irises. The aphids typically aggregate on the underside of leaves and on developing buds.
