The Skriabin aphid (Macrosiphum skriabini) is a specialized insect species belonging to the order Hemiptera and the family Aphididae. It is a well-known pest in horticultural and agricultural settings, specifically targeting plants that belong to the Lamiaceae family, with a particular affinity for Salvia species.
The host plants are primarily damaged by the aphid's feeding habits. By clustering on the underside of leaves and along tender new shoots, these insects extract vital phloem sap. This feeding process deprives the plant of essential nutrients, leading to stunted growth, wilting, and, in severe cases, the death of the plant parts.
