Macugonalia cavifrons belongs to the family Cicadellidae (sharpshooters) of the order Hemiptera. This insect is a specialized pest primarily distributed in South American regions. The species poses a significant threat to the agricultural sector, as it is capable of transmitting phytopathogens that cause severe plant diseases.

The main crops susceptible to attacks by this species include citrus fruits, vineyards, and various ornamental plants.
