The rose aphid, scientifically known as Maculolachnus submacula, is a member of the Aphididae family. This specific pest primarily targets members of the Rosaceae family. Unlike some generalist aphids, this species is highly adapted to the specific chemical composition of its host plants, which makes it a persistent issue in rose cultivation.
The primary host plants for this pest are species of the genus Rosa. Aphids typically congregate on tender new growth, stems, and the undersides of young leaves.
