Crops most severely affected include ornamental plants, leafy vegetables such as cabbage and lettuce, peppers, and various fruits. They frequently infest nurseries, where dense vegetation provides optimal shelter from dehydration.

Biology and life cycle: The life cycle of this mollusk is strictly dependent on high moisture levels. Adults lay eggs in soil or damp organic debris. Development of the eggs requires constant humidity and protection from direct sunlight. The pest is primarily nocturnal or active during overcast days, which often hides the extent of an infestation until significant damage occurs.
