The pest causes significant damage by feeding on the buds, foliage, and succulent stems of its host plants. In commercial plantations, the presence of this insect can lead to severe structural damage to the plants, resulting in stunted growth and a considerable decrease in the overall health and productivity of the infested orchards or gardens.

The life cycle of Marriottella exquisita follows a complete metamorphosis pattern: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. The overwintering adults emerge in early spring, synchronized with the onset of plant vegetative growth.
