Description
Masonaphis pseudomorrisoni is a specific aphid species belonging to the order Hemiptera and the family Aphididae. It is considered an important pest for various species of the genus Lonicera (honeysuckle), where it establishes colonies on young shoots and foliage to feed on plant sap.
The biological cycle of this aphid involves overwintering as eggs on the bark of host plants. As temperatures rise in early spring, the eggs hatch, producing a generation of stem mothers. These individuals produce subsequent generations, leading to rapid population growth that coincides with the plant's active growing phase.
The damage caused by this insect is characterized by the curling, yellowing, and distortion of young leaves. By sucking the nutrients out of the meristematic tissues, the aphids effectively stunt the growth of the shoots, leading to reduced vigour and potentially affecting the overall plant health and bloom potential.
