The primary damage caused by mergansers is the predation on fingerlings and juvenile fish in commercial aquaculture facilities. Unlike typical ducks, mergansers are specialized piscivores equipped with serrated, tooth-like structures on their bills. These adaptations ensure a firm grip on slippery prey, making them exceptionally efficient at hunting in controlled water environments.
