While many Pteromalids are beneficial parasitoids, specific species in the genus Mesopolobus have been identified as pests of certain crops, particularly impacting the reproductive stages of cereals by developing within the developing seeds.

The primary hosts for this species include various cereal crops, most notably wheat. The pest attacks the grain while it is in the soft or milk stage, with the larvae boring into the grain to consume the developing endosperm. This behavior directly reduces grain weight and affects the overall vitality of the seeds harvested.
