The Molva moth belongs to the order Lepidoptera, specifically within the leaf-miner group (Gracillariidae). As a professional agronomic concern, this pest represents a significant challenge due to the larval stage's endophytic nature. By living and feeding between the leaf epidermal layers, the larvae remain protected from many environmental factors and standard contact pesticides, making management complex.
This pest primarily targets horticultural crops, orchards, and various leafy vegetables. The larvae create mines by consuming the mesophyll tissue, which leaves the external appearance of the leaf often distorted or blotched.
