This species is commonly known in academic circles as a significant pest of various agricultural crops, particularly in African and Asian territories, where its populations can escalate rapidly under favorable climatic conditions.

The range of affected crops is quite broad. Morphacris fasciata is known to feed aggressively on cereals such as sorghum, millet, maize, and rice. Beyond agricultural land, these insects also consume native grasses and shrubs, often leading to severe depletion of pastures and natural vegetation, which poses a secondary threat to livestock farming.
