The wood stork (lat. Mycteria americana) belongs to the order Ciconiiformes and the family Ciconiidae. Although it is a protected species in many regions, in the context of commercial farming, particularly rice cultivation and aquaculture, it is often considered a nuisance pest that requires specific management strategies to prevent economic losses in affected areas.
The primary crops vulnerable to the wood stork's foraging activities are rice fields and commercial fish ponds.
