Systematic position: Naenia typica, commonly known as the Gothic moth, is a species of moth within the family Noctuidae (order Lepidoptera). It is a well-known pest distributed throughout Europe and parts of Asia, frequently found in gardens, farmlands, and various habitats where its host plants are present.
Crops damaged: This species is highly polyphagous, meaning it feeds on a wide range of botanical hosts. Primary crops at risk include potatoes, brassicas, lettuce, onions, and various fruit bushes such as raspberries and currants. It often exploits both agricultural crops and surrounding wild weeds for development.
Biology and life cycle: The life cycle consists of four distinct stages: egg, larva (caterpillar), pupa, and adult. The insect typically overwinters as a larva in the soil or under leaf litter.
