The currant-lettuce aphid (Nasonovia ribisnigri) is a specialized insect species within the family Aphididae, order Hemiptera. It is globally recognized as a significant agricultural pest that targets both ornamental and edible plants, with a particular focus on lettuce and its related varieties, causing substantial economic losses in vegetable production.

The primary crops affected by this pest include lettuce (Lactuca sativa) and endive. Unlike many other aphid species, Nasonovia ribisnigri exhibits a specific behavior of colonizing the heart or the inner leaves of the lettuce head, which creates a protective micro-environment that complicates the application of direct control measures.
