Its ability to infest plants covertly makes it a challenging threat for both commercial orchid nurseries and hobbyist growers.

This pest targets a variety of orchid species, primarily feeding on the succulent vegetative organs such as pseudobulbs, stems, and flower spikes. The damage is often concentrated in the internal tissues, which the insect utilizes both for nutrition and for the development of its offspring. Host range typically includes various epiphytic orchids that provide sufficient biomass for larval growth.

The life cycle involves egg-laying directly into the plant tissue, which is a key survival strategy for the species.
