Description
Systematic position: The genus Neohipparchia belongs to the order Lepidoptera, family Nymphalidae, and subfamily Satyrinae. These butterflies are closely associated with grassy habitats, and their larval stages are strictly phytophagous, specifically targeting various species of Poaceae.
Host crops: The larvae primarily feed on various grass species. While they typically prefer wild grasses, they can migrate to cereal crops when their natural habitats are disturbed. Infestation is often localized but can be significant in regions with intensive monoculture farming and proximity to meadows.
Biology and life cycle: The life cycle follows a complete metamorphosis pattern. Females oviposit on the underside of grass blades.
