Oak plant bug

Neolygus quercalbae is a species of plant bug belonging to the order Hemiptera and the family Miridae. This insect is a specialist feeder that specifically targets oak trees. As a phytophagous pest, it plays a significant role in the health of deciduous forests and urban landscapes where oaks are the primary ornamental trees.

The host range is primarily limited to species of the genus Quercus. During the spring, the nymphs and adults feed on the developing buds and young, succulent leaves. This period of feeding is crucial because it coincides with the initial flush of growth, meaning any damage caused can have long-lasting effects on the tree's vigor and development throughout the growing season.
