Neoseiulus anonymus

Neoseiulus anonymus is a mite species belonging to the family Phytoseiidae of the order Mesostigmata. While many members of this family are known predators, this specific species is recognized in some agricultural contexts as a pest that can cause localized damage to cultivated vegetation.

The pest primarily affects vegetable crops, including members of the Solanaceae and Cucurbitaceae families. Its ability to thrive in controlled environments, such as greenhouses, poses a risk to commercial vegetable production, where high plant density favors the rapid spread of the mite.

The life cycle of the species consists of egg, larva, protonymph, deutonymph, and adult stages. Under favorable temperature and humidity conditions, the development from egg to adult occurs rapidly, allowing the pest to produce multiple overlapping generations throughout the growing season.

Damage is characterized by chlorosis and stippling on the leaves, caused by the mite feeding on plant sap. As the infestation progresses, leaves may turn yellow, wither, and drop prematurely, resulting in stunted plant growth and a significant reduction in overall photosynthetic efficiency.
