Niastama (lat. Niastama) belongs to the family of lace bugs (Tingidae) within the order Hemiptera. These insects are easily distinguished by the intricate, net-like structure of their pronotum and forewings. In agricultural settings, they are considered specialized phytophagous pests that can inflict significant damage during peak infestation periods.

The primary hosts for Niastama are mainly woody plants and shrubs, although they can infest various ornamental species under favorable climatic conditions. The pest feeds by piercing the leaf surface to extract plant sap, which disrupts the host's metabolic functions and inhibits photosynthesis.
