Once established in a nutrient solution reservoir, they can quickly colonize the entire plumbing system.

In high-density hydroponic systems, where organic matter is readily available in filters or root zones, their population density can surge, placing stress on the cultivated plants.

Indirect harm is arguably more significant, as their presence causes clogging in irrigation emitters and facilitates the proliferation of opportunistic fungal pathogens that thrive in the decaying organic matter associated with the crustacean colonies.

Effective management and protection of crops against Nitocra rely on rigorous sanitation and technical oversight. Recommended control measures include:
